Meet The Boss
During a recent day trip from Miami to Bimini, a small chain of beautiful islands that sit west of the Bahamas-I shared a glass of Rose' with the ultimate #girlboss and #mompreneur, Danisha Rolle. Being in Danisha’s presence inspired me to challenge my inner boss and I learned a carat or two about what it takes to slay this thing called entrepreneurial life. This Chicago native is a strong, educated businesswoman; a beautiful wife and mommy, a creative and prolific entrepreneur and creator of SET-Sports and Entertainment Today Media.
As publisher and founder of Sports and Entertainment Today – SET – Magazine; Danisha has created an exclusive sports editorial that provides an in-depth look behind the scenes of famous athletes and celebrities, showcasing their families, vacations, and lifestyle with vivid photographs and interviews. Athletes such as Floyd Mayweather Jr., Laila Ali, Usain Bolt, Ray Lewis, Jared Boll, Lebron James, and Swin Cash have been featured in SET.
This brilliant business concept stands out in the market. SET’s unparalleled access to life events such as engagements, weddings, and exclusive events set them apart from other sports magazines. Their female readers identify SET as a leader in sports entertainment news and covet their take on the most current and controversial topics. SET reveals the true identities of the world’s most intriguing athletes offering more than just stats. They have put a face to the names found in many sports reviews.
Danisha has changed the game for wives of successful athletes. She paved her own lane and created an avenue that led to success with a brand that has such amazing caliber and credibility. All of this while wearing her crown as wife to Samari Rolle, former NFL All-Pro Veteran for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens who together, share four children.
It was only fitting that we chat, above the clouds to discuss everything from her sound advice on success to an amazing project that she (along with myself and five other ladies) have organized and aptly named; SET AN EXAMPLE Women of the NFL Conference. So, here’s to you Mrs. Rolle for inspiring me to greatness while making the effort look flawless...c’est la vie!
DS: Why do women need to take a proactive approach toward their success and achieving their dreams?
DR: Women need take a proactive approach toward their success and achieving dreams simply because if they don't, those dreams and visions won't happen. It's a restless feeling to know you have potential or the ability to do something but just haven't. Why not? Who wants to live with "what-ifs"? Time stops for no one so when the years go by, do you want to reflect thinking, "if only I had..."? That's even more of a reason to be proactive. I take a proactive approach because I want to make things happen. I owe it to those that have gone before me. I have opportunities that they were not afforded.
DS: What advice would you give your younger self?
DR: I would tell my younger self to always trust my instincts/intuition, in business and relationships. I have not gone wrong when I do. I would also throw out there, probably scream, with a clap on each word for emphasis - DUE-DILIGENCE.
DS: The greatest joy of being a mompreneur and wife?
DR: The greatest joy of being a mompreneur and wife is hearing my children ask if they can come to set with me. They look forward to going to photo shoots and movie sets. My middle children were so proud about being featured in one of the issues of SET Magazine that they took it to school to show their friends and teachers. Knowing that my children and my husband are proud and supportive is definitely my greatest joy.
DS: What drives your passion?
DR: My passion is driven by my ability to effect pleasure and potential. I love to inspire. I love to get to know people. Really get to know them - get to the core of who they are, what made them that way, learn about the way they think and view things. That was one of the reasons I created SET Magazine. While I wanted to create a sports platform for women, I also wanted to showcase human including pieces. The athletes and celebrities are human. Similarly in the films that I produce I like to get behind content that tells stories that make you think and feel good.
SET AN EXAMPLE WOMEN OF THE NFL
DS: What inspired you to create the women of the NFL conference?
DR: I've attended wives getaways and conferences in the past and wanted to unite ALL women of the NFL. Regardless of association or affiliation, whether your husband is active or retired. We are so much stronger together.
DS: Why are you dedicated to this community?
DR: I'm dedicated to this community because I'm part of it. I've lived this life and have built many lifelong friendships as a result of it. So many statistics can be changed if we come together and are not afraid to share our experiences.
DS: What is your ultimate goal for this diverse community of women?
DR: My ultimate goal for this diverse community is to provide a weekend of empowerment, inspiration and motivation. Allowing these women to let their hair down or as we say come "filter-free!" Our goal is to get to know one another, have some fun, hear experts and their peers share about topics that will provoke them to go back to their homes and communities enlightened and ready to "Shape the Future." The theme for this year is "Shaping the Future." Shape the future in whatever way makes most sense for them. One woman may leave ready to be the best wife, mother and homemaker EVER while another may be ready to take on entrepreneurship with new tools and more confidence and yet another may just pick up better communication skills so they can be more effective in taking their family foundation to the next level. Wherever you are as a Woman of the NFL, we want you to leave better -forging solid real-life relationships, expanding networks and the willingness to embrace a sisterhood of women that are so much more alike than different.
