Throughout history, art has always been a gateway to express many of our deepest emotions. Artists have created visual representations that help illustrate the complex pictures of our feelings.

The Black Lives Matter murals created by extremely talented Charlotte artists are more than an representation of political and social unrest-they are addressing our need to connect, to feel, and to be heard.

These murals are resonating the pride we feel to speak up for ourselves and demand equality.

They are teaching younger generations that systemic racism is not only whack but detrimental to our progress as humans.

Most importantly, these murals are helping those individuals who choose to be silent, choose to ignore, and choose to “not understand,” our outcry that things will not return to “normal.”

The new normal is a society where black people are embraced, loved, respected, protected, and seen. This will be our new normal. This is what we are fighting for.
